I had a couple of Facebook memories pop up today. One was reminding me that two years ago today we were setting sail on my 5th cruise. It was my first time with a balcony room and we loved it. The other notification was from just one year ago.
One year ago today I received a phone call saying that there was an appointment cancellation with Dr. Yeung, the closest endometriosis specialist to me, and I was next on the list.
The timing was perfect since my original appointment wasn’t scheduled until late October. Tim was at work but rushed home to meet me. We hopped in my car and drove to St. Louis (of course making a pitstop along the way because the 10cm endometrioma was pressing against my bladder). We got there just in the nick of time for the appointment.
I really liked Dr. Yeung. He took quite a bit of time to listen to and speak with Tim and me. We discussed excision of endometriosis and the next steps in my treatment. I would need to come back in about a month to have an ultrasound done by his tech. Unfortunately, when I returned for that appointment in August, he told me that it would be at least 5 months before he could help me surgically because he would have to reserve a whole day just for me and probably have other specialists on hand due to the complexity of my disease. He suggested that, with his referral, I reach out to the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta – that they might be able to take care of me faster and have much more experience. I had also been in touch with Dr. Charles Koh in Milwaukee who Dr. Yeung also spoke highly of…and who eventually took my case sooner than we expected.
You can see all of my endometriosis posts here. They are in order with the most recent first.
Through my struggle this past year, I lost 30-40 pounds. Most of that weight loss happened while I was on liquid/soft diet during my 3 1/2 week stay in the hospital. Unfortunately, I put that weight back on and it’s time to kick it into high gear. I been in I’ve-been-through-hell-and-I-deserve-it mode and I can’t keep up with it. I’ve always been overweight. I’ve tried everything – including the Lap Band (which failed and was removed in 2012).
So, I’m joining a 6 month DietBet (link will open in a new window)…and you’re welcome to join me.
I have a few days to come up with a plan but it’s sure to include exercise and healthier eating. Hopefully we can save some money by eating at home more as well. I would like to reignite my passion for cooking which has been cast aside for a few years because I just didn’t have energy.
